Sprout
Sprout is a self-care app prototype combined with a hologram-projection of a bonsai tree. The aim of Sprout is to motivate CBT-patients (CBT: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) during their treatment by giving them a strong feeling of personal growth through the metaphor of a bonsai tree.
Problem
People experiencing anxiety and psychological challenges often struggle with motivation and long-term engagement in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (KBT). Traditional therapy methods can feel overwhelming, and patients may lack a tangible way to visualize their progress, making it harder to stay committed to the process.
Solution
As a UX designer, I helped design a KBT app combined with a hologram bonsai tree prototype to create a more engaging and motivating experience. We conducted interviews with psycholoists and former KBT patients to understand key needs and challenges. Based on these insights, we developed a concept where:
✅ The bonsai tree symbolizes personal growth, evolving as users progress
✅ Users can accept challenges in the app, reinforcing therapy excercises
✅ Progress is visualized both in the app and through the hologram, providing a rewarding, interactive experience
Result
The combination of visual progress tracking and interactive challenges helped increase user motivation and engagement in their therapy journey. The bonsai tree provided a tangible, calming representation of growth, making it easier for users to stay committed to their mental well-being.
Design exhibition
We exhibited Sprout at the Department of Computer and Sciences school fair, where we presented Sprout.
